Transparent conducting oxide glass coatings for photovoltaics

Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) are remarkable semiconductor materials that, as their name suggests, combine transparency with electrical conductivity, two normally mutually exclusive properties. These TCOs are a vital component in all types of solar cells as they provide a transparent layer to allow photons into the device while simultaneously being able to transport away the generated current. This project will focus on the characterisation and optimisation of existing and novel dopants in TCOs to give enhanced carrier mobility and improved performance. TCO films will be provided by glass company Pilkington NSG Ltd and university collaborators.
